SISTER RELATIONSHIPS

We are a non-profit Catholic organization focused on creating lasting sister parish relationships between parishes in the U.S. or Canada and parishes in countries (primarily Haiti) of the Caribbean and Latin America. We have over 340 such linkages making it the largest citizen-to-citizen network joining undeveloped countries of the Caribbean and Latin America and North America. We facilitate and support both parishes in developing a mutual and enriching relationship of sharing, solidarity and understanding. Parishes in the U.S. and Canada support their Twin Parish financially (there is no commitment to a specific amount of money) and through a variety of programs developed according to the needs of the Twin Parish and the available resources of the US or Canadian parish. Since 1978, our parishes have sent over $22 million in aid.

PTPA Emphasizes:

1. Creating linkages to help sister parishes meet their religious, educational, medical and economic needs and to help them reach their own potential
2. Aiding sister parishes to build their own faith communities based on the peace and justice of the Gospel
3. Forming Christian bonds of love and support
4. Encouraging solidarity with the people of developing countries in their struggle for democracy, justice and peace

PTPA Benefits Christians in North America by:

1.  Helping them to become fully aware of their lives in relation to other through spiritual growth and fulfillment
2. Broadening their view and understanding of the global church and its place in the world
3. Raising the consciousness and sensitivity to the needs of the poor and less fortunate
4. Providing opportunities for hands-on lay involvement in the missions
5. Challenging them to a deeper faith and prayer life

This affiliated mission work is a unique way in which people can become involved in helping fellow Catholics in communities in less developed areas of the Caribbean and Latin America.
